APRA publishes statistics on the general insurance industry on a quarterly basis.
The industry performance statistics contains aggregate summaries of financial performance and position, investments and capital adequacy. Statistics are also provided at a class of business and state level.

The performance statistics contains data relating to financial performance and position at an industry aggregate level. Statistics are also provided at a class of business level.
The database presents the performance statistics data in a database format.
The specifications file provides details of the data elements included in this publication.
Important notice
The content in this publication has been updated to reflect the new reporting framework for insurance with effect from 1 July 2023. Users should interpret the data together with the latest Reporting Standards and are encouraged to check data point definitions as outlined in the publication specification available above. Further information on the revisions to the insurance publication suite can be found here.
The quarterly general insurance institutional-level statistics is currently on hiatus. In future, APRA intends to consult on the confidentiality of data collected under the new reporting standards, and updates to its institutional-level insurance statistics.
Historical data
Archived versions of the quarterly GI statistics are available below. The data is collected on a different basis to the new data and cannot be used as a direct comparison.
