APRA publishes statistics on the superannuation industry on a quarterly basis.
In October 2022 APRA released the first in a series of new publications that leverage new reporting standards implemented in Phase 1 of the Superannuation Data Transformation project to increase the transparency of the superannuation industry.
This new quarterly industry superannuation publication contains data on superannuation products and investment options, member demographics and investments.
In July 2022, APRA released a response to the SDT - Publications and Confidentiality Consultation. This paper confirmed APRA’s plans for the publication and the confidentiality of data reported under the new superannuation reporting standards. The new publications leverage the new reporting standards to improve data quality and increase the transparency of the superannuation industry.
As with any new data collection, APRA has observed variations in the quality and consistency of reporting in the initial submissions. To ensure the quality of the new collection prior to publication, and to include historical data, APRA proposed a staged release timetable.
Under the staged implementation of the new reporting forms, data on RSE investments was due for the first time on 28 July 2022. APRA will complete analysis of the quality of reporting prior to publishing these new statistics. Industry-level asset allocation, Industry-level and MySuper fixed income investments and industry-level derivatives will be included in the QSAP from the December edition (planned for release in February 2023).
