APRA announces executive appointment

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) today announced the appointment of Mr Mark Adams as Executive General Manager, Specialised Institutions Division.

Mr Adams has extensive experience in the finance sector in Australia and the UK, including a number of executive positions at National Australia Bank where he worked for 17 years before leaving to consult in the technology sector.

In his career at NAB, Mark held senior roles across a variety of business lines, including retail and business banking and financial markets. Before transitioning to the finance sector, Mark’s early career involved working in Australia and internationally in the mining and oil industries. He holds a Bachelor of Chemical and Materials Engineering from the University of Auckland.

APRA Chairman Wayne Byres welcomed Mr Adams appointment to APRA’s executive team. ‘Mark brings to APRA valuable commercial experience across a range of business activities, and a strong commitment to serving the Australian community by ensuring a sound and well-managed financial system,’ Mr Byres said.

Mr Adams replaces Mr Ben Gully, who resigned from APRA to return to Canada for personal reasons. Mr Adams’ appointment takes effect from 4 December 2017.
