APRA’s Guy Eastwood awarded Public Service Medal

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has congratulated Mr Guy Eastwood, APRA’s Head of Credit Risk Analytics, on being awarded the prestigious Public Service Medal (PSM) as part of the 2016 Australia Day Honours.
Mr Eastwood was awarded the PSM for outstanding service in the development and implementation of financial sector policy.
The Public Service Medal is one of the Meritorious Service Awards in the Australian honours system, and recognises outstanding service by public servants through, amongst other things, leadership, excellence in service, and innovation in program, project or policy development.
APRA Chairman Wayne Byres said Mr Eastwood was recognised for his leadership and acknowledged expertise in the field of risk modelling and capital adequacy for banking in Australia. Mr Eastwood is the pre-eminent expert in his field in Australia, and one of a small group of global experts.
“We congratulate Guy on receiving the Public Service Medal – his pivotal contribution over a long period of time to the design and implementation of APRA’s policy framework in the highly technical area of risk and capital modelling has greatly contributed to the strength and resilience of the Australian banking system.”
Mr Eastwood’s public service has spanned 35 years, having worked at APRA since its formation in 1998 and before that with the Reserve Bank of Australia.
The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) is the prudential regulator of the financial services industry. It oversees banks, mutuals, general insurance and reinsurance companies, life insurance, private health insurers, friendly societies, and most members of the superannuation industry. APRA currently supervises institutions holding around $9 trillion in assets for Australian depositors, policyholders and superannuation fund members.
