APRA releases first edition of revised Insight publication

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has today published the first edition of its revised Insight publication with an overview of the superannuation industry and of the Government’s Stronger Super reforms.

APRA has published Insight since 2001, and the publication provides information on policy initiatives and developments in the financial industries that APRA supervises.

Each edition of the new Insight publication will include an overview of one of the three industries APRA supervises — banking, insurance and superannuation — along with other articles on issues of current industry relevance.

With ongoing enhancements to APRA’s data collections, the previous statistical data in Insight have been removed and will be available in APRA’s various statistical publications. As a result, the new Insight is an editorial-only publication that will be published three times a year in a smaller reader-friendly format.

This first edition of the new Insight contains an overview of the superannuation industry, which is on the cusp of significant change with the introduction of Stronger Super. There are also articles on how APRA intends to implement the Stronger Super reforms as well as discussion of APRA’s superannuation research and its statistical data collections.

Insightcan be found on APRA’s website.

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) is the prudential regulator of the financial services industry. It oversees banks, mutuals, general insurance and reinsurance companies, life insurance, private health insurers, friendly societies, and most members of the superannuation industry. APRA currently supervises institutions holding around $9 trillion in assets for Australian depositors, policyholders and superannuation fund members.
