APRA Hosts International Supervisors

Monday, 03 May 1999
No. 99.11
For Immediate Release

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority will host an international conference of integrated financial supervisors in Sydney on 3 and 4 May.

The conference will bring together representatives from eight overseas agencies that have similar responsibilities to those of APRA in the Australian financial markets, particularly the prudential supervision of banking and insurance.

The first of its kind, the conference will provide a forum to foster the sharing of ideas and experiences among agencies that straddle traditional industry boundaries.

Issues for discussion will include organisation and management structures for regulatory agencies, legislative frameworks, relationships with governments and other bodies and ways of supervising conglomerates.

In addition to APRA, the following agencies will be represented:

  • Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, Canada
  • Danish Financial Supervisory Authority
  • Financial Supervisory Agency, Japan
  • Financial Supervisory Service, Korea
  • The Banking, Insurance and Securities Commission of Norway
  • Monetary Authority of Singapore
  • Financial Supervisory Authority, Sweden
  • Financial Services Authority, United Kingdom

Please note the conference will not be open to the media.
