APRA releases new ADI industry statistics

Thursday, 19 January 2006
No. 06.04
For Immediate Release

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) today released the first edition of two new publications - Quarterly Bank Performance (for the quarter ended June 2005) and Quarterly Credit Union and Building Society Performance (for the quarter ended September 2005).

Both publications follow extensive industry consultation and provide a broader and more detailed overview of Australia's deposit-taking industry. The publications provide aggregated consolidated profit and loss and balance sheet data from information reported by authorised deposit-taking institutions (ADIs).

ADIs report data to APRA on a monthly or quarterly basis. The Quarterly Bank Performance data do not go beyond the June 2005 quarter to avoid the release of market sensitive profit information of listed banks.

Copies of the Quarterly Bank Performance and Quarterly Credit Union and Building Society Performance publications are available on APRA's web site at: www.apra.gov.au

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) is the prudential regulator of the financial services industry. It oversees banks, credit unions, building societies, general insurance and reinsurance companies, life insurance, friendly societies, and most members of the superannuation industry.
